3. Only as Good as Your Last Win: The Harsh Truth About Success

Funny how life turns out.

We spend so much time racing ahead—trying to be better, faster, and more efficient than everyone else—that we rarely stop to look at the bigger picture.

We chase the next promotion, the next job title, the next opportunity that will prove we’ve made it. In a competitive world, that drive is almost expected. It becomes our way of life. Sometimes, we’ll push everything—and everyone—aside just to get there.

And maybe, for a while, it feels worth it. Maybe it’s even necessary in certain industries. After all, if you don’t fight for your seat at the table, someone else will.

But here’s the uncomfortable truth:
What happens when you do get upgraded?

What happens when you finally land that role, hit that target, or achieve that milestone?

You might think it’s the beginning of stability. Recognition. Long-term value.

But in many cases, it’s just the start of a new race. Because in today’s world, loyalty and commitment have become relics of the past. You’re no longer celebrated for how long you’ve stayed or how hard you’ve worked.

You’re measured by your most recent success—or worse, your next one.

Your value isn’t in who you are anymore, but in what you can deliver right now.

It’s a sobering realisation:
You’re only as good as your last win.

So maybe it’s time we start redefining success for ourselves. Not just in terms of climbing ladders and breaking records, but in the quality of our lives, relationships, and sense of purpose.

Because if the finish line keeps moving, maybe it’s not about reaching it—but deciding whether we even want to run that race in the first place.

I’m a lone parent navigating life with two teenage girls who hit puberty right in the middle of the Pandemic. This journey has been anything but ordinary, and these pages are my survival story—one filled with moments of struggle, growth, and resilience. It’s been a wild ride, but somehow, we’re making it through together.
